MOHAMMED SAGHIR MECHBAL
CEO

A young boy from the Rif region of Kebdana,

These sensory and human experiences initially shaped his social awareness, that he put to use for the benefit of young people in difficulty and for the judiciary system, and then his taste for entrepreneurship and the wish to emphasize the memory of his culture with this immigrant community, mainly Moroccan, who live as well as they can in-between their original customs and those of their adopted country.

His warm contact with people, along with a commercial flair for opportunities, allowed him to launch himself, at the age of 30, into what has become, today, a leading company in the import-export of ethnic food products, Mia Trading International.

“Every year I saw Moroccan families coming back, their vehicles full of food products from the homeland, because they were difficult to find here. However, they would rapidly decay after such a long journey without any guarantee of hygiene. I started to approach the suppliers, often producers, to propose larger orders and transport under better conditions all the way to Brussels. I was able to persuade the retailers to trust me with more regular, faster and better controlled deliveries.”

His reputation grew and Mia Trading soon became a reference in the supply of food products from the Maghreb and then from the Mediterranean region, for a growing network of local shops. When Mohammed managed to persuade a Chinese producer to give him the exclusive rights to his green tea for commercialisation in Belgium, he was able to launch his flagship product: the Bouraza tea (Bouraza means “turban” in Arabic) which allowed him to spread the culture of “Moroccan tea” more widely and to firmly establish his success in the field of agri-food.

Through his commercial situation and his success at the head of a wonderful company of 30 people, Mohammed Mechbal can also make his voice heard as an entrepreneur in support of young people launching new initiatives or to invest socially with associations that fight the social divide such as Bouraza Medina Forest, a sports club for youths which is linked to a homework school.

He also plays the role of spokesperson for entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds, who represent over half of the economic fabric in the Brussels region, as an administrator at the BECI, the economic chamber of the capital of Europe. He is also proud to have achieved various awards that recognise the inspirational path and the entrepreneurial spirit of the descendants of immigration in Belgium.
